A long-time member of the Zionist Federation (ZVfD), from 1919 devoted most of his activity to the Jewish People's Party (GERMAN NAME), an organisation closely associated with the Zionists. He chaired the Berlin Gemeinde administration in 1928-1930, a time when the Zionists held a dominant position in the community leadership. During the Nazi era, Kareski opposed the decentralised nature of the National Representation (Reichsvertretung) and favoured a more centralised leadership for German Jewry. He expressed criticism of the Zionist Federation leadership and headed a competing Revisionist Zionist organisation. In 1935, Kareski tried to use his connections with representatives of the Nazi regime to be appointed to the board of the Cultural League ( Kulturbund ); in 1937, he attempted unsuccessfully to capture the National Representation (Reichsvertretung) by using a similar tactic. After these gambits failed, he left Germany and settled in Palestine. Died 1947.
